Llama Lake was quite active today. The highlight of the day was seeing two
GREATER YELLOWLEGS actively foraging along the banks of the lake. The
receding water level is exposing a lot of muddy shorebird goodness right
now.
Other highlights were two WILSON'S SNIPES, a mom MALLARD with a bunch of
ducklings and a CANADA GOOSE sitting on a nest.
It was a good day. We saw 32 species on our walk around the lake, which is
the highest species count we have had. New birds for the year were
PIED-BILLED GREBES, GREATER YELLOWLEGS and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD. Last week,
the only noteworthy sighting was a Northern Rough-winged Swallow.
