Dear Tweeters,

Enjoyed the posts about fountain-pen obsessions,
on-line lists, and field notebooks.

My favorite field notebooks are little plastic-covered
ones that are manufactured in Lebanon. When I left the
Middle East, I glommed every one off every shelf in
all three stores in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, where they
were sold. The notebooks are side-bound (not the nasty
little top-bound kind). They're sewn in signatures of
eight pages, rather than just glued together. The
covers have all sorts of different abstract patterns.

I used to pay about 50 to 75 cents for these, maybe a
dollar for the extra-chubby sizes. Now I am down to my
last couple of notebooks, and I am not happy about
having to go to the local office-supply place here and
pay ten times more for a compromise!
