Subject: where did they go? Feeder fall-off

To Lyle and Tweeters:

We too are experiencing a decline of feeder visitors, as we do each year at
this time. As Stewart said, the seasons are changing. Some of our regular
winterers (like juncos) have left for the north or to higher elevations; our
resident towhees, sparrows and chickadees are preoccupied with territories.
And so if bird volume goes down from winter, when it seems like the birds
empty the feeder quickly, there still might be some new visitors in the
coming weeks. I remember we had a pair of Golden-crowned Sparrows in late
April a few years back, a species we've never seen here otherwise.
