Hi All,

There will be the major City Council hearing on Magnuson Park this Wednesday at 6pm, April 21st (with speaker sign up beginning at 5:15 pm ) at the City Council chambers, enter on 5th Ave between Cherry & James.

(By the way, I assume that this is a perfectly legal by-the-book post regarding NW birds and birding. If it?s not considered legal, I would be interested in knowing that.)

To quote from my Seattle Times ad of last Sunday, April 11, page A-8, which was titled ?Magnuson, Can we leave anyplace unpaved??:

The pastoral areas of Magnuson Park are critical for Seattle?s remaining Oriole and Quail. They are also used as a foraging ground of last resort ?where aerial insect hunters go to survive on unseasonably cold spring days? by hundreds of returning Barn and Violet Green Swallows that nest in Northeast Seattle.

The ad said other things, but this is the part that would be relevant to tweeters.

I wonder if anyone has any comment about my statement, anything to add or subtract involving the birds or other nature at Magnuson? We would also love it if anyone wanted to add the city council meeting on the 21st to their personal agenda, we need all the speakers and attendees we can get!

More info is on Friends of Magnuson?s website www.saveourparks.org

P.S What a lucky week. There?s also an important hearing on the Black River (Renton) heronry, the adjacent property that is, on Tuesday the 20th of April, see Suzanne Krom's post from yesterday.

Thanks, Ed Newbold newboldwildlife at netscape.net Beacon Hill, Seattle.
