Some people recon that Geese crap about 28 to 30 times a day and because of
the fact that many geese accumulate around parks and sports fields, this is
a problem for the precious people who use them. They say that the crap
consists of slimy goo that does not break down so well and wash into the
grass etc, so it is a great excuse for the city to rid the geese as a "pest"
Some people around athletic fields consider the crap dangerous because of
the slimy substance and can slip on it!!! These are all great reasons to
have these wonderful birds exterminated aren't they!!!

Again the problem behind this is "man" not the geese, many geese were
relocated to this area by the USDA, About 30 years ago, thinking that the
Canada geese were about to go extinct, USDA Wildlife Services agents
relocated geese from the Columbia River to waterfront locations throughout
the state. It was thought that the transplanted geese and their goslings
would migrate, as Canada geese always had. But they didn't. The relocation
may have disrupted the geese's migration instinct and/or the Puget Sound
region offered such attractive habitat that they had little motivation to go
anywhere else.
There is no danger to water quality from Canada geese; this is absolute
total rubbish and propaganda
An egg addling program is needed here which has bred successful elsewhere!
I quote this from someone I read a few years ago

"If the USDA had done efficient and thorough egg addling, we wouldn't be
seeing so many goslings now, who are being gassed by the USDA. There is
something appalling about the Seattle Parks Department threatening to close
parks for "lack of funds" while they are spending such huge amounts on a
useless and cruel campaign of slaughter. The Give Geese a Chance people
offered to do this work (for free) in a humane and efficient way. Taxpayers
are being forced to fund a barbaric, unapproved method, when an alternate
civilized solution is free for the taking"

Again as I said in previous posts, why do we not treat humans the way we do
animals? Geese have been crapping for thousands of years, we are taking
their habitat away from them and making houses on waterfronts, parks etc,
look at the pollution we cause!!! It is ludicrous.

Sorry, but I will not go into the starling argument, believe what you want
to.......

Hi,
I'm not very knowledgeable about wild birds yet.
So I am wondering about the geese.
Don't they pollute the water because there are so many of them and they are
so large which harms other animals?
Also wondering about starlings and house sparrows, in books there is always
talk about people who care about birds getting rid of them because they are
a threat to other more desireable and uncommon birds.
Are these birds a problem is certain areas or are they bad to have around
everywhere?
I have not seen any kind of problem with them here so far. Maybe if I
continue to feed birds they will prosper more than others and then I will
have a problem?
Thanks for the info.
