Best time for shorebirds?Henne and Ed,
According to my information, the shorebird migration peaks sometime during
the last week in April and the first week in May. The best time to be at
Gray's Harbor is between 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide.
Otherwise the birds are too far away. The Shorebird festival was timed to
take advantage of the tides, which are ideal that weekend. The weekends
before and after the Festival are less than ideal, but you should still get
some action. According to my calculatons, high tide on Saturday, April 24,
should be around 6 p.m. (best viewing times 4 - 8 p.m.) and on Sunday, April
25, around 7 p.m.(best viewing times 5 - 9 p.m.) High tide at Gray's Harbor
is about 45 minutes later than the published high tides for Pacific Beaches.
