Hi Tweets, I spent a short time birding around Elma today. My most
productive area was the wetland area along Dunlap Rd., which is south of
Elma off of Highway 12. In the wetland, there were five different species
of shorebirds which included Least Sandpiper, Western Sandpiper, Long-billed
Dowitcher, Greater Yellowlegs, and at least one Lesser Yellowlegs. Four
cows were also slopping around in the wetland, but the shorebirds didn't
seem to be bothered by them too much. Ducks here included Cinnamon Teal,
Mallard, Hooded Merganser, and Green-winged Teal.

I also checked out the small pond along North Blockhouse Rd., which had one
Solitary Sandpiper foraging on the muddy areas.

Good birding,
