After yesterday's big storm I was concerned about the fate of the new purple
martin gourds that were installed on lower Elliott Bay at Jack Block Park; I
was confident that they would withstand 50 knot gusts, but had no idea that
such a storm would come just 2 weeks after installation. Not only were all
the gourds stable, there were two pairs of martins present at dusk tonight.
The two males were adults, a solid purple. The new gourds are based on land,
so I can access them without a boat and without regard to tidal conditions;
the Port of Seattle gave me access to the beach, and even installed posts
for me to place the gourds.

It was a great evening!

During yesterday's storm I was at the north beach of Discovery Park; no
martins were present, but the gourds held up fine!
