Spring migration seems to be picking up tempo. I couldn't resist a quick
walk this morn through the sunlit woods, finding 6 warbler species. The
highlight was a first-of-season MacGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER. This was our
earliest; we get a small number in the latter half of May-early June each
year. Still, it seems like first arrivals elsewhere in wWA are always in
the latter half of April, some years before the 20th.

The other notable bird was our first-ever CHIPPING SPARROW, a species that
seems to be showing well this spring in the region. Empids are increasing
(see below).

4/29 N. Lake Stevens migrants (includes heard-onlys)

Red-br. Sapsucker 1
Hammond's Flycatcher 3
Pacific-slope Flycatcher 7
RB Nuthatch 5
Varied Thrush 2
OC Warbler 1
Black-throated Gray Warbler 5
Yel-rumped Warbler 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
MacGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER 1
Com. Yellowthroat 1
CHIPPING SPARROW 1

Among residents, a pair each of Pileated Woodpecker, Hutton's Vireo, and
Purple Finch seem to be setting up nesting territories on the site.
