Hello Tweets,

This afternoon my mother and I spent a few hours checking a few areas in Mason Co. including near Wood Lake and a short visit made at Belfair State Park on our way home. On our way to Wood Lake along North Shore Rd. just south of Belfair S.P. were up to 15 Common Nighthawks and 6 Mourning Doves at a residence near Belfair S.P. Our visit near Wood Lake produced such species as the following:

2 Turkey Vulture
1 Osprey
2 Red-tailed Hawks
1 Common Nighthawk
1 Belted Kingfisher
3 Willow Flycatchers
8+ Northern Rough-winged Swallows
1 Hutton's Vireo
9 Bushtits
3 MacGillivray's Warblers
1 Purple Finch
9 Red Crossbills

Of additional note we collected one Black-tipped Darner,of which we have been searching for and was a new dragonfly species for the both of us. Other dragonfly species of note near Wood Lake included the following:

Emerald Spreadwing
Boreal Bluet
Pacific Forktail
California Darner
Blue-eyed Darner
Variable Darner
Canada Darner
Common Green Darner
Western Pondhawk
Eight-spotted Skimmer
Four-spotted Skimmer
Common Whitetail
Blue Dasher
Saffron-winged Meadowhawk

Butterflies of note included:

Lorquin's Admiral
Great Spangled Fritillary


Next,our visit to Belfair S.P. during high tide produced a gathering of shorebirds and gulls including the following species:

12 Western Sandpipers
22 Least Sandpipers
24 Bonaparte's Gulls
6 Ring-billed Gulls
26 California Gulls
18 Caspian Terns

On our way home a very quick visit to the mouth of Gorst Creek at Gorst(Kitsap Co.)produced 2 Spotted Sandpipers.
