After failing to see any ptarmigan Saturday morning in the Paradise area
(hiked and hung out in the area from 7 am to 1 pm), I headed to Sunrise. I
finally came across two WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGANS - an adult female with one
chick - near Mount Fremont Lookout at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The
adult was even kind enough to inform me (by turning her head upward) of a
PRAIRIE FALCON cruising overhead.

The ptarmigans were on the ridge immediately south of the lookout station,
and were easily observed from the trail.
