Back in ancient Babylonian days when I was the first refuge manager for McNary, Cold Springs and McKay Creek N.W.Refuges (1954-55),and going through my copies of refuge reports, I recorded 2 White Pelicans at McNary on Sept. 18, 1954. Didn't see them after that date.

On September 16, 1954 I observed 29 of these birds fishing at Cold Springs Creek N.W.Refuge. Numbers dropped to 3 by midOctober then dwindled down to none thereafter. Cold Springs N.W.Refuge is near Hermiston, Oregon and about 16 miles SW of the junction of the Walla Walla and Columbia Rivers.
