Martins are fledging at a number of sites, and the activity has made nest
counts much easier. Jack Block Park is a great observation spot, with 12
nests; some are only 30 feet from the observation deck. Kellogg Island and
Terminal 105 each have 5 pairs, and the Public Access Beach in Ballard has
11 or 12 pairs. Pier 90 has 2 or 3 pairs.

This morning I heard a scrub jay by my Seattle house in Ballard, the first
I've noted in perhaps a year; I used to see them regularly for several years
since about 1998, then in the past year or more they've been scarce.
