On July 18, Ron and Carole Louderback reported at least 43 GREAT EGRETS on
an island upstream of North Richland. This island has breeding Great Blue
Herons and Black-crowned Night-Herons and recently the Great Egrets have
nested there.

John Mundall of Connell reported a WESTERN TANAGER in Connell on July 20.

Two WHITE-FACED IBIS were seen by Maxine Reed on August 1 at the ponds
behind the Tyson processing Plant off Dodd-Iowa Road in Wallula.

On August 3, Nancy LaFramboise found a SOLITARY SANDPIPER at the Yakima Delta.

Most exciting was a RED-NECKED STINT that Nancy LaFramboise found at the
Yakima Delta on August 5. If accepted by the Washington Bird Records
Committee, this will be the first Red-necked Stint for the state. The
stint was among Western and Least Sandpipers about midway between Bateman
Island and Route 240 when it was discovered. It then flew to the west end
of the delta, seen from behind the Road Closed sign by 3 observers. 5
other observers were able to see the bird that evening near the midsection
of the delta. On August 6, 2 people saw the stint before 7 am. To my
knowledge it was not relocated until that evening and was seen by at least
2 more observers. Today, August 7, the water is up at the delta and people
are enjoying various recreations. There is mud, but the viewing of
shorebirds is problematic. Nancy LaFramboise checked the delta from the
dike road and from the west side of Bateman Island. The stint was not
relocated but she did observe a SORA, 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 2 WILSON'S
PHALAROPES, and 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date,
and sightings after the tone. Thank you.
