Bird #1 - I am going with the Black Headed Grosbeak and assuming that it was migrating because I have not seen it since. I was leaning to that but had not seen one before.

Bird#2 - I've looked at books on the suggestions: Song Sparrow - too much detail. White Crowned Sparrow - too light. Winter Wren and Bewick's Wren - Wrens are just too small. Hermit Thrush - too light on underbody. Swainson' Thrush - again too light on underbody.

I had a better look at it last night. It has a "rounded body" and the tail is about as long as the body. The only markings I could see were on its upper breast/throat, other than that it is medium to dark brown all over. It seems to be a ground feeder as I have not seen it at one of the feeders.

I am going to have to sit outside with my camera, hopefully it will come by and I am able to get an image, then post it.

Hi Everyone,

I need help in ID of two birds:

1. First time seen. Migrating? Approx. size of a Goldfinch, maybe a bit larger; buff colored breast; light brown rest of body; black and white stripped head (top middle stripe white, then a black one and then a white one above eyes; beak? It didn't stay long enough for me to see.

2. This one has been around all year but never stays in one place long enough to see any details. It "appears" mostly dark brown and very much like a larger sized wren. Size: larger than Junco but smaller than Rufus Sided Towhee.
