HI:
Scott Atkinson's report of a Tricolored Blackbird near Sequim got me thinknig about a blackbird I saw as a kid birder (late 1970's)here on Bainbridge Island. It looked like a red-winged blackbird except it had a white border to the red-wing patch. I looked in my Peterson guide and it said tricolors had a white border not red-winged blackbirds. Then I looked at the range section and noticed it was found in CA and Oregon only. So I figured it was just an unusual redwing. So the question I have is how often do red-winged blackbirds have a white border? Also how do you separate them from tricoloreds?
