Hello All,
We along with Ginger and Rodger Shoemake birded the Walla Walla River delta early this morning. Our interesting observation of the morning were two adult Glaucous-winged Gulls being followed and begged from by three very hungry recently fledged young. These three young gulls constantly begged and pecked at one of the adults bills in an attempt to cause the parent to regurgitate a meal. These three followed the hapless adult all over the delta begging and bumping into each other for over an hour until the adult flew over to a moribund carp which was attacked with great fury by all three young, that is until the adult attemped to sneak away and liberate herself from the three pests. This is the third time we have observed begging chick Glaucous-winged Gulls out on this delta over the last six years.
