A neighbor called me distraught that a bird had hit her window. I walked
over to check it out. A Black-capped chickadee. Yup, dead. It appeared in
perfect condition, very clean so I put it in my shirt pocket and continued
my walk. While stopping to chat with some other neighbors, you can guess
what happened. My dead chickadee revived and started moving in my pocket. So
imagine the reaction of my neighbors when in the middle of a conversation
about the environmental politics of the Bush administration, I pull a
chickadee out of my pocket, it groggily hops onto my finger for about two
minutes, then flies away!
