There's a pond on Vashon that is drying up and has several hundred, maybe a thousand bullfrogs in various sizes and stages of development. I've never seen herons trying to eat them. They jump in the water as soon as they see anything but there are so many it seems like a heron would have an easy meal just pushing them around in the increasingly shallow water. There are also a lot of other hatches occurring along the shoreline and I wonder why all of this abundant potential food isn't being nabbed.
