Greetings Tweeters,

Yesterday I received an email from a member of USGS's Alaska Science Center
in regard to the photos I took last winter of the crow with deformed bill that
hung out at the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park. I am always happy to contribute to
this type of research as it will help ferret out the causes and, hopefully,
lead to a less chemically contaminated environment, should this be the cause (Or
even if it is not the cause!).

Other Tweeters may be interested in the information and helping through the
USGS Alaska Science Center web site (http://www.absc.usgs.gov/ and click on
Chickadee Alert to find out how you can help with this project by reporting any
bill deformities you see).

I was amazed (and saddened) to learn that there has been a large number of
sightings of Black-capped Chickadees with deformed bills in Alaska (over 1200
reports) and reports from all over the county of other bird species (over 195
reports from 27 other species) with similar deformities. They have been getting
reports of a particularly high number of deformed crows recently.

Regards,
Judy
