Subject: Black Swifts on the move - request for information

Greetings,

It's Black Swift migration time already. Here in British Columbia, it looks
like non-breeders are starting to move, even as the breeders are still
hanging out at waterfalls with their 3/4 grown chicks.

We understand that there are several organizations and researchers currently
conducting breeding biology and nest site monitoring studies of Black Swifts
in the western states. What we are interested in is trying to get a handle
on migration patterns, staging area, etc. of the species, both in spring and
fall. To this end, we would much appreciate receiving any observations of
Black Swifts from now through the end of the year anywhere in North America.
If you can contribute, please visit our Black Swift web page at
www.birdinfo.com/blackswift_bcsurvey.html for more details and to download a
data sheet. Our British Columbia database (which will be expanded this fall
to include other jurisdictions) can be accessed at
www.birdinfo.com/BlackSwift_database.html, with a few swift photos posted at
www.birdinfo.com/BlackSwift_image.html

You may submit your data to swifts at birdinfo.com

If you have any questions, or have difficulty downloading the form, please
contact Paul Levesque at tuff-puffin at shaw.ca

We will be out in the field quite a bit between now and Labor Day, so may be
a bit tardy in responding to queries. However we will get back to you as
soon as we can.

We look forward to hearing from you.
