Boating up the Duwamish yesterday I saw purple martin activity at Terminal
105 and Kellogg Island, as expected; about 5 pairs have been nesting at each
site. Other birds included a peregrine under the West Seattle Bridge, at
least 4 ospreys on low pilings at T-105, and another 4 ospreys on low
pilings at T-115. We only went up to the First Avenue Bridge, so we our
osprey count was a mere 8.

In the evening at Jack Block Park I saw as many as 40-50 martins swirling
around the gourds and the high light posts; activity seems to peak around
7:30 to 8 pm. Eagles and ospreys can spur them into action at almost any
time if they get close enough.
