Tweets,
I went out with a group of birders from Port Twonsend today. The Eider
was behind the Westport Shipyard in Port Angeles. At the 3 Crabs we found
two Lesser Yellowlegs in the wet spot in the SW corner of the field just
before you turn east on to the 3 Crabs Road (at the restaurant0. It is
actually before you cross the stream.
The godwit could have been there because there was a lot of fog on the
tide flats until noon and the tide was coming in but I went back to 3
Dungeness Landing CP after my friends
left and there were only the usuals there.
The Blyn restoration project is rapidly proceding. They were taking the
culvert out on the levee we usually walk out on and up on the end of the
access road there is a lot of truck activity going on and forbiding signs.
It is all to be done by October and should be a great place when it is
finished. I talked to a reveg speialist and he said that 2j0 species of
waterplants had alredy reestablished. When it is done there will only be the
US101 bridge over Jimmy Come Lately Creek and you will access the west area
from a cul de sac off 101.They had constructed a shorebird scrape at the
northend which will fill on high tide and hold enough water at low tide to
suit the shorebirds (about 200 peeps when I was in there 10 days ago). At
the present time it looks like you can only access the west side on weekends
and even then have to disregard signs. The tribe is working hard with Bob
Boekelheide to make it attractive to birds. The tribe is also ono of the
partners on the Audubon River Center. Next year!.
