A big thank you to you for these excellent directions. We quickly found the
Eider today between 12 noon and 1:00, sunning and preening with a Hooded
Merganser for company.

Tweets, visitors and others who want to look for the Common Eider,
Coming in to Port Angeles from the East on US 101 you will be going through
downtown PA on Front St. Continue on Front St (do not turn left at Lincoln
St where 101 goes up) Stay on Front St which becomes Marine Drive as you go
around the bend. Just ahead on the right are two LARGE buildings. The first
one - blue in color - is Platypus Marine. The next one - beige colored - is
Westport Marine. Go just past this building and turn right at the
ground-level large sign "Westport Shipyard" You are there!! At the
waterfront is a large log boom area. This is where you look for a large
(cormorant size) dark chunky duck with a prominent white patch mid-body. He
likes to hang out on or near the easternmost boom logs. His favorite resting
spot seems to be on the log next to the dolphin at the east end of the log
boom. He was there this evening at 7:15. (Wednesday) Good hunting.
