Tweets,

Two of us spent a beautiful morning at Nisqually yesterday. The day started
with high overcast that soon burned off and turned into a warm, sunny day. The
refuge was again pretty quiet, without much bird song, but with lots of
activity. There were plenty of juveniles to test our skills. Fortunately, there
were enough adults feeding them to make things easier.

Highlights included an OSPREY flyover at McAllister Creek, a GREEN HERON at
the Nisqually River Overlook, and an AMERICAN BITTERN inside the Ring Dike seen
from the Nisqually River Trail. We also had a couple of TURKEY VULTURES
flying over the Nisqually River.

There were several RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS sighted, some juveniles playing tag
near the Twin Barns. COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and WILLOW FLYCATCHERS continue to be
just about everywhere and we had a female WESTERN TANAGER in the riparian area
just past the Nisqually River Overlook.

The only mammal seen was a LONG-TAILED WEASEL on the trail toward McAllister
Creek.

Total species for the day was 43 with no new species for the year. Yearly
total remains 126.

Next we I plan to do the full loop, so the walk will take 5+ hours. If you
join me bring water & lunch. My next walk at Nisqually after that will be
September 16th as I am off to Michigan to visit family ad friends.

Until next week,
