1:00pm start - water level low (-0.71 at 10:14am), but tide is coming in; all usual mudflats visible
1:24pm end

Tweeters,
Clear skies, once again, with temp in the mid-80s (once again), and a northerly breeze at Turning Basin #3. A SPOTTED SANDPIPER teetered its way around the peninsula of the TB3 restoration area, and then back again. Three COMMON MERGANSERS were sleeping on the shoreline until the water got close to them; and then they went fishing. It's amazing how fast they can move just under the water's surface! I noted that all three were about the same age, and that as yet, none had wings that appeared to be big enough to provide lift to be airborne.

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Canada Goose (22)
Mallard (40; including "Downy" and mom)
Common Merganser (3)
Great Blue Heron (2)
Osprey (2; both juv, and both in the Hamm Creek nest)
Spotted Sandpiper
Glaucous-winged Gull (6)
Rock Pigeon (12)
American Crow (5)
American Robin (2; incl 1 juv)
European Starling (250)
House Finch (2)
House Sparrow (2)

May all your birds be identified,

Denis DeSilvis
