Hi Tweets:

This evening I was out watering my animal-plant-friendly front yard when I
nearly blasted the young Rufous Hummingbird. It came within 2 feet of the
strong water stream while it fed on the yellow Cape Fuchsia. I changed the water
dial to a soft mist and eased it over the hummer. The Rufous immediately began
bathing in water filled leaves and moved through the fine mist of water,
finding new bath water. What a joy it was to watch this tiny bird as it cooled
down from the day's heat. Based on behavior, feeding habits, and where this
Rufous Hummingbird has its favored perches among the plant stems, this is not one
of my spring hummers. This bird has been in my yard since July 28th. A
second Rufous shows up from time to time. Excuse me, while I go water my Hummer.
