Hi Tweeters,
I made it back to North Cover Saturday afternoon at about 1:00. There were many birders in attendance, though no Black-tailed Gull. Within 15-20 minutes of my arrival, Patrick Sullivan spotted the gull among over 500 gulls on the water of the inlet to the west of the creek and roosting on the sand. We were peering through a pretty dense fog, so viewing was a challenge. Within a very short time of the initial viewing, many of the gulls took off but the BTGU stayed on the water.
We approached closer and were treated to decent views. all of the gulls took off again and after a short scan, the BTGU was found again.
After a respectable time, to insure that everyone had a long look at it, I waded the creek to try to get close enough for good photos. I managed quite a few shots before the gulls all took off again. I couldn't find the BTGU again, so I called it good enough.
Two of the better photos are in the "new photos" folder on my website -- the link is in the signature box.
