Sightings for August 16

At Kilpoola Lake W. of Osoyoos a STILT SANDPIPER and a SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER were observed amongst numerous other shorebirds (BL,DH,BM,DB). The
2 juv. STILT SANDPIPERS continue at Robert Lake in Kelowna (CC).

An adult and a third year GOLDEN EAGLE were seen soaring low over the Black
Mountain Grasslands E. of Kelowna (TF).

Migrants at the Chichester Bird Sanctuary in Kelowna included a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH and a first fall male MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER (CC).


Sightings for August 15

Large numbers of birds continue to gather on the mudflats visible from the
Nature Park at the foot of Narcisse Road in Salmon Arm. Today, amongst
thousands of shorebirds were 9 STILT SANDPIPERS and over 100 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES (CC,RT). At least 4 juv. FRANKLIN'S GULLS and 2 AMERICAN WHITE
PELICANS continue amongst large number of RING-BILLED GULLS (CC,RT). Migrant
songbirds found in the Nature Park included a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER and a
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD (CC,RT).

Along the trail to Christmas Island in Salmon Arm, the summering ALDER
FLYCATCHER was again located near the outhouse (CC,RT). At Christmas Island,
a whopping 15 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were feeding in pools close to the foot
path. An adult CLARK'S GREBE was found on the lake off the SW. end of the
island and flying far offshore was an adult COMMON TERN (CC,RT).

At Robert Lake in Kelowna, shorebird numbers are dwindling due to falling
water levels, however 2 juv. STILT SANDPIPERS were present in the evening
(CC).


Sightings for August 13

An imm. DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT was found at the N. end Vaseux Lake (BL).

In Kelowna, an adult MEW GULL has returned to the MacDonald's parking lot at
Hwy 33 and Hollywood Road (CC).

Fourteen species of shorebirds were seen at Robert Lake this evening
including a juvenile SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, a juv. STILT SANDPIPER, a juv.
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 75 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 7 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and 5 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS (CC,LR,LK,PB).
