The identification of the RED-NECKED STINT found 5 Aug on the Yakima River
Delta in Benton Co WA by Nancy LaFramboise has been under some study. The
bird is now believed to be a LITTLE STINT. The bird, seen by many observers,
was still being found through 14 Aug, but has not been seen since. If you
make the decision to visit anyway, be aware that Highway 240 may be closed.
If you are coming from Yakima and west, take Exit 3 (Queensgate) off I-182.
Turn right at the end of the ramp and then left on Columbia Drive/Columbia
Park Drive. Drive to the 4 way stop and if you cannot access the ramp
toward Richland, keep going as far as Bateman Island/Wye Neighborhood Park
and access the dike road from there (west end of Wye Park). Coming from
Spokane etc - exit at Columbia Center Blvd off Rt 240, go north toward the
river on Columbia Center Blvd to the end of the road. Turn left and use the
east entrance to the dike road as described above. WA DeLorme 39, BC-6.

On 14 Aug, Bill & Nancy LaFramboise reported a STILT SANDPIPER at the Yakima
Delta. GREATER AND LESSER YELLOWLEGS and WILSON'S PHALAROPE were also
present.

Large numbers of shorebirds are still being observed at the Walla Walla
Delta. First summer FRANKLIN'S GULLs, AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS,Caspian Terns,
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, WESTERN, BAIRD'S, & LEAST SANDPIPERS were reported
on the mudflats. The delta is in western Walla Walla Co and can be accessed
0.1 mile north of Madame Dorian Park. There's a pull-out along US 12 at
milepost 306.9 and a path to the delta. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

The Para and McCain ponds outside of Othello, WA had SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS
and one SOLITARY SANDPIPER. WILSON'S PHALAROPES and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES
and a single first year FRANKLIN'S GULL was also noted by Randy Hill. From
Othello go north on Broadway (west end of town extending north from WA 24)
past the processing and storage facilities and as the road crosses the RR
tracks it becomes McManamon Road. Continue across the canal and down the
hill past the 2 potato sheds. The Para Ponds are just beyond on both sides
of the road. WA DeLorme 53, B-7.

On 10 Aug, Gina Sheridan reported a pair of WHITE-FACED IBIS at the
Dodd-Iowa Ponds. The ponds also had LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, WILSON'S PHALAROPES, BLACK-NECKED STILTS, and AMERICAN AVOCETS.
Turn onto Dodd-Iowa Beef Road at US 12 milepost 301.5 about 5.5 miles north
of the jct of US 12 and US 730. Follow Dodd-Iowa east about 0.5 miles past
the slaughter house, the road goes down a little hill and then back up. At
the top, turn right onto a gravel road that used to be a railroad grade.
Follow it to settling ponds. WA DeLorme 40, CD-1.

Good birding.
