This morning, Tuesday, the Black-tailed Gull showed up at the North Cove
beach location about 6:40 am and bathed, preened, and hung out at the
shoreline where the creek runs into the surf zone for about 20 minutes.
About 6 birders got great looks during this interval and watched it fly off
(with no obvious provocation) around 7 am with a group of Heerman's Gulls.
After a very brief circuit of Tokeland (no Bar-tailed Godwit), I quickly
checked the North Cove Beach area again around 8:15 am, but there was no
sign of the BT Gull and the number of gulls on the beach was much
diminished. Given the similar report from Marv Breece for 8/15 and others
previously, perhaps the early morning is a good time to check for this bird
as the gulls come into the creek mouth for their morning rituals.
