Hi Folks

There were two juv GREEN HERONS at the wetlands in Golden Gardens Park this
morning. (Wed Aug 18) One was pretty much hidden, the other seemed to be
facing off with the resident turtles. It stalked the length of the
log they were both on, the huge RED EARED SLIDER (turtle, 12" to 14")
Turned to face the Green Heron as the Heron moved to within a few inches of
the turtle. The Heron flew to within a few feet of a second turtle, then
over to a third. It was pretty cool, although the turtles don't belong there.

This is my first Green Heron sighting there, the "Wetlands" are only about
7-8 years old, they were destroyed in the '70's by the railroad dumping
slide debris. To see something like a Green Heron there to me is a positive
sign that the land is healing.
