Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 19. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 15 a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK visited a Medford birdbath. An August
15 offshore boat trip out of Coos Bay found a MANX SHEARWATER, a BULLER?S
SHEARWATER, 10 LONG-TAILED JAEGERS, and 15 ELEGANT TERNS.

Many migrant and dispersing birds were reported during the week. Juvenile
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were reported from Pacific City, Seaside, Sauvie
Island, Portland, Finley NWR, and from Davis Lake in the Cascades.

On August 14, 50 ELEGANT TERNS were at Gold Beach, and another at the
Siltcoos Estuary. Two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS and a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER
were on the North Spit of Coos Bay August 13. That day a FRANKLIN?S GULL was
at Newport. On August 16 at least 100,000 SOOTY SHEARWATERS were at Seaside..

On August 16 a group of 40 WHITE PELICANS were on Sturgeon Lake on Sauvie
Island. Over 100 GREAT EGRETS are now at Smith/Bybee Lakes in North
Portland. On August 16 a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was at the Vanport Wetlands..
On August 18 a SNOWY EGRET was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. On
August 14 two SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir. The next
day an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen there, and on August 18 a MARBLED
GODWIT was seen.

On August 15 two WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were near Waldo Lake in the
Cascades. A female COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD is now coming to a Bend feeder.
