I went to Mount Rainier today with Ben Griffith and his dad and brother. We
hiked to Frozen Lake then onward to Second Burroughs, then back down to the
parking area via Shadow Lake. Birding was very slow, though views were of
course spectacular. We didn't see many of the alpine things -- no
rosy-finches or even Horned Larks. Extremely unusual was a Swainson's Hawk
which flew by the visitor's center heading southeast. Also had a single
Calliope Hummingbird fly by us, and a Western Tanager.
