This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, August 21st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE and CASSIN'S AUKLET

Sightings for August 21st

At the Tsawwassen jetty were 3 MARBLED GODWITS and a FRANKLIN'S GULL.

Another FRANKLIN'S GULL was at the foot of 96th, Boundary Bay.

In a field off Highway 17 near Deltaport Way were 2 STILT SANDPIPERS and 17
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.

At Reifel were 3 more STILT SANDPIPERS.

Sightings for August 20th

Seen from the ferry as is approached Tsawwassen were a BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKE and further out, a CASSIN'S AUKLET.

At the Tsawwassen jetty were 3 MARBLED GODWITS, 11 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 18
BLACK TURNSTONES and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

In a field off Highway 17 near Deltaport Way were a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and
11 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.

Reifel had the following birds: 6 STILT SANDPIPERS, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE,
a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and 3 SANDHILL CRANES.

Boundary Bay had many highlights. In the morning there was a BAR-TAILED
GODWIT at the foot of 104th while a WHIMBREL was at the mansion. Later in
the day, there was a FRANKLIN'S GULL at the mansion along with 6 STILT
SANDPIPERS. A BAR-TAILED GODWIT was at the foot of 88th while a BLACK
TURNSTONE was seen at the foot of 104th and another at the foot of 112th.

At Iona were an OSPREY, 30 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 5 SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS, 2
STILT SANDPIPERS and a BANK SWALLOW.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen at the duck pond at Colony Farm.
