Subject: Western Walla Walla Co. Rainy day Birding

Hello All,

This morning out on the Walla Walla River delta in between rain showers we observed the following species.

PARASITIC JAEGER.......1 dark morph sub-adult, first of the season. Out after a group of small terns. took photos. Drifted off to the east up the Walla Walla River channel.
Common Tern...................12 birds
Forsters Tern....................16 birds
Wood Duck.......................330 birds, this is the largest flock we have ever seen in Walla Walla Co.. They were forced down by the cold front and its winds.
Common Yellowthroat........1 female, rare species in this corner of Washington.

Tyson Slop Ponds

Franklins Gull.........1 sub-adult bird on shore of largest south pond.
Red-necked Phalarope...50 birds in winter basic plumage.
WHITE-FACED IBIS....2 adult birds on middle pond. These two have been in the area for over three weeks.
Peregrine Falcon........1 adult over center pond.

Dodd Rd. Refuse Ponds ( 2/10th mile east of entrance to Tyson Plant on north side of Dodd Rd.

Bairds Sandpipers........24 birds
Lesser Yellowlegs........9 birds
Western Sandpipers.....135 birds
Long-billed Dowitchers..2 birds

This site is well worth a look over!
