Greetings,

Rolan's last post reminded me of the importance of "reporting" noteworthy
birds.

Sunday, Walla Walla to Rochester via the gorge and between rain storms:

Iowa Beef Ponds-
White-Faced Ibis (Already reported by the Dennys.) We only saw one, though,
in the second to the last pond from the south. It was still there at 9:15am.
We didn't see the Franklin's gull, but did see both Red-Necked and Wilson's
phalaropes. Other birds the same as they saw there.

Lyle, Old Hwy 8
Only one acorn woodpecker seen on the "south" snag. Male. The only Lewis's
Woodpeckers seen were almost at the end of Balch Rd in the last oak stand
before reaching the dead end. Twenty turkey vultures flying above the east end of
the Hwy 8 turn off.

Lyle Cemetery
The cemetery had quite a bit of bird activity: Mountain chickadees, Cassin's
Finches, Western Bluebirds, about 30 Lesser Goldfinches, American
Goldfinches, jays, and several White-Breasted Nuthatches. The rain was coming and we
couldn't stay, but this is sure a nice spot.

Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge
Both Snowy Egrets were seen together at about 3:30, almost seeming to be
nestling a Great Egret. After about 10 minutes of watching them, one flew off
towards the blind. Seen from just past the last turn on the back end in among
all the Great Blue Heron and Great Egrets.
