This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Sunday,
August 22nd, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare Bird Alert for NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and BAR-TAILED GODWIT

Sightings for August 22nd

Near the stone bridge at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park was a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH.

In a field off Highway 17 near Deltaport Way were a REEVE, 15 STILT
SANDPIPERS, 25 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and several YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS.

Boundary Bay had many sightings throughout the day. These include a
BAR-TAILED GODWIT, seen at the foot of 96th and later 104th. At the foot of
88th was an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. Near the mansion were 2 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, 6 STILT SANDPIPERS and a FRANKLIN'S GULL. At the foot
of 112th was a RED KNOT. On 72nd Street near the airport were 2 GREAT-HORNED
OWLS and a BARN OWL.

At the Tsawwassen jetty were a FRANKLIN'S GULL, 3 MARBLED GODWITS, a WILLET
and 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

At Reifel were 7 STILT SANDPIPERS, 3 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, a GREEN HERON,
an AMERICAN BITTERN, a PEREGRINE FALCON and 5 SANDHILL CRANES.

At Burnaby Lake was a GREEH HERON. Another GREEN HERON was seen at Colony
Farm along with 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen in Pitt Meadows at a pond near the sharp bend
in the road before Grant Narrows.

Sightings for August 21st

At the Tsawwassen jetty were 3 MARBLED GODWITS and a FRANKLIN'S GULL.

Another FRANKLIN'S GULL was at the foot of 96th, Boundary Bay.

In a field off Highway 17 near Deltaport Way were 2 STILT SANDPIPERS and 17
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.

At Reifel were 3 more STILT SANDPIPERS.
