I'd like to thank all the folks who helped me prior to my trip to your state. I spent a week in Washington, and I arrived back home in South Dakota a couple of days ago. Thanks in part to the tips I got from many of you, I saw most of the birds I hoped to see, and I got quite a few pretty decent photographs. I guess my highest priority bird that I struck out on was the marbled murrelet. Maybe next time. I also happened to pick a fairly slow day for birds during the pelagic trip I took on August 21, but still I at least glimpsed almost all the birds I wanted to see. Also some whales.

Other observations: why are the banana slugs in Olympic NP black and the ones at Nisqually NWR brown? Why is Interstate 5 in King County in such deplorable condition?

I certainly enjoyed my trip, but I would have liked to have spent more than just a week.
