Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 26. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was reported August 21 about 40 miles northwest of
Newport. A REEVE was at Fern Ridge Reservoir August 21 and has remained.
Another was near Florence August 25, along with a STILT SANDPIPER.

Ducks are now arriving from the north. Large numbers of GREAT EGRETS are
being reported, including 70 at Ridgefield NWR, 136 at Smith/Bybee Lakes in
North Portland, and 40 near Florence.

On August 23 a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was on the North Spit of Coos Bay. On
August 20 a PRAIRIE FALCON was at the Tenmile Estuary in northern Coos
County. On August 23 a SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER and and 400 RHINOCEROS
AUKLETS were at Boiler Bay. On August 25, 137 MARBLED MURRELETS were there.

Two SNOWY EGRETS are now at Ridgefield NWR and one is at the Fernhill
Wetlands at Forest Grove. A flock of 65 WHITE PELICANS were on Sauvie Island
August 21. A BLACK TURNSTONE were reported August 21 from Smith/Bybee Lakes..
A juvenile FRANKLIN?S GULL was there August 23. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at
Baskett Slough NWR August 23. A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was near Brownsville
August 18.

A MOCKINGBIRD was near Sisters August 20. On August 21 a RUDDY TURNSTONE and
100 WHITE PELICANS were at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend. The large
concentrations of avocets, stilts, and phalaropes continue at Lake Abert.
