What a surprise to find a cover photo and four pages of photos and text on
Tongue Point - aka Salt Creek - in this morning's Seattle Times. It's a
magazine type section so perhaps it's included in the P-I, too. Anyway,
this is the place where many of the turkey vultures hit land after crossing
the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Vancouver Island. We count from just a few
hundred feet to the east of the point (in the photo). More than once
visitors have come to us amazed at having seen several hundred vultures
coming in off the water just over their heads.

So, if you want to take your kids tidepooling or just visit a really neat
campground and recreational area, try the end of September or very early
October - a couple years ago we had nearly 3,000 turkey vultures, most of
which came into the park area.
