One of the best things about having a small yard is that it keep you looking skyward to see what is passing over. Yesterday at 7pm I had a COMMON NIGHTHAWK flying around - Montlake Fill would be a good place to look for this bird. I have only seen a nighthawk once before though I am told there used to be a small colony breeding on the rooves in U-Village many years ago.

The second surprise of the evening came just at dusk - a GRAY FLYCATCHER came and sat on the power cables just outside of the house.

Our house is just north of U-Village however it is surprising the number of birds what have been seen in the yard or flying over. Until yesterday the best birds seen were common loon and nashville warbler - no bad for a house with a yard which measures 60 feet by 12 feet.
