Subject: Western Scrub Jay on Queen Anne Hill

Hello Tweeters,

?This morning on Queen Anne hill across from David Rogers Park, there
was a Western Scrub Jay foraging for green berries in our back yard
Madrone.?It was hiding the berries under the bark and in cracks in the
trunk of the tree.

?While we observed the bird it appeared that it was solitary, although
there were several Stellar?s Jay squawking and perching close to the
Scrub Jay.??

?There was no aggression on the part of the Stellar?s Jay against the
Scrub Jay. The Scrub Jay did not seem to mind the presence of the
Stellar?s Jays since it continued with its foraging and hiding behavior
even though the Stellar?s Jays were closely watching from about a meter
distance.

?We were wondering if Scrub Jays and Stellar?s Jays normally flock
together and if so what types of interaction, if any, occur between the
two species?

?Don and Sandi McVay
