Tweeters,
Ventured north today to the Sod Farm on 72nd at Boundary Bay south of Ladner, BC. There with the help of John and Mike Tabak of Vancouver, we were able to see as many as 16 Buff-breasted Sandpipers. The birds were seen in the north-east corner of the sod farm at quite a distance (about 400 metres). I'm still pretty amazed that John and Mike were able to spot them. We walked out the railroad tracks to get a better view. Eventually the birds flew in a little closer to 72nd and we were able to get better looks at them.
I also tried to find the Ruff that had been seen at the junction of hwy 17 and Delaport Way. Didn't get to see the Ruff. At the pond were: a Stilt Sandpiper, 4 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 Baird's Sandpiper, 2 Wilson's Phalaropes, 5 Red-necked Phalaropes, and a group of Greater White-fronted Geese. Finished off the day by seeing 5 Barn Owls inside a friends barn. Beautiful day in one of the great birding locales in our area.
