Tweeters,

My first and only Surfbird encounter was with a group of six on Alki
over four years ago.
A week ago Paul Webster reported a "large flock of Surfbirds and Black
Turnstones" on
Alki, and this afternoon I got the chance to take a look. At 2:00 the
tide was high and the
flock was found. It looked like 40-60 of them, with a 2 to 1 ratio in
favor of the Surfbirds.
They were working the rocks just east of the start Alki's big sandy
beach (about 53rd).
They're a pretty mellow group of rockpipers, willing to let a person get
good close looks.
