Subject: [Tweeters] Response to Mary Frances Regarding Short Eared Owl

Three weeks ago I saw at least 5 short eared owls at the West 90 - one
was to the north and the other four were to the south flying around the
first pond on the left that has the blind in the middle. They didn't
get active until about 4:00 p.m.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving I had one on the ground at the West 90 in
the field to the north of the parking lot. I heard about the snowy owl
at Big Ditch and left before they normally get active.

Interestingly, in the years I have been watching the short eareds I have
noticed that early in the winter they don't get active until late in the
day but as spring gets closer they seem to get more active during all of
the daylight hours. Has anyone else made this observation?
