This morning I started at the Boeing Ponds on 59th St in Kent. From about
8-9AM I had no luck with the SAY'S PHOEBE. But there was an excellent
assortment of ducks.

On to Cedar River Park (at the mouth of the Cedar River in Renton) for a
shot at the ICELAND GULL; no luck. Once again, lots of ducks; both
goldeneyes, both scaups and many other ducks. There were a few gulls:
HERRING, RING-BILLED, GLAUCOUS-WINGED, WESTERN, THAYER'S and MEW. Nothing
exotic. Ran into Michael Fleming who told me of a LONG-TAILED DUCK at Gene
Coulon Park, seen from the turn around where the road ends at the north end
of the park. He had seen this bird recently and it was there again today.

Then Michael and I decided to drive to Hoquiam in hopes of seeing the
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, reported earlier by the Sullivans. I think we arrived
about 2:30. Within minutes of turning onto Paulson Road west of Hoquiam we
saw AMERICAN KESTREL, PEREGRINE FALCON, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK,
SNOW GOOSE (juv) and other birds. There was a strange CANADA GOOSE near
the airport that had excessive white on the head and an orange bill. After
a brief look, the bird disappeared from view, and we continued our search
for the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. Along Paulson Road we heard our target and
found the bird perched in the trees on the west side of Paulson Road. We
were joined by Ruth and Patrick Sullivan and enjoyed looks of the
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK until it started to get dark.

It was a good day.
