The Rare Bird Alert for a possible BROAD-WINGED HAWK. The McKAY'S BUNTING
has not been reported since Wednesday.

Sightings for Saturday, December 11

Upwards of 20 birders scoured the Iona South Jetty in a vane attempt to
relocate the McKay's Bunting. Conditions were less than ideal with 40km
winds from the NW for most of the morning. The GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH was
again reported from the Iona North Jetty. The bird was seen just before the
start of the rock portion of the jetty. Also here were 4 WESTERN
MEADOWLARKS.

A bird thought to be a BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen in over flight of Cecil
Green Park. The bird soared off in direction of Iona.

In a field at 41B Ave and Deltaport Way were 1 RED KNOT, 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS,
and 1 WESTERN SANPIPER.

Along the Roberts Bank Jetty, with BLACK TURNSTONES, were 2 ROCK SANDPIPERS.
Also along the jetty were a RUDDY TURNSTONE and 4 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Seen at the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty was the WILLET.

Near the intersection of 68th St and 60th Ave were 2 SANDHILL CRANES.

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were 2 MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, a GRYFALCON, a
NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, and a BARRED OWL.

Seen at Brunswick Point were 3 SNOWY OWLS. Three SNOWY OWLS were also
reported from the foot of 72nd. Other owls in the area were 3 SHORT-EARED &
a BARN OWL. A BOHEMIAN WAXWING was seen in shrubs near the golf course.
Near the vehicle turn around at the foot of 64th was a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
and a COMMON REDPOLL.

A MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE is coming to feeder near the intersection of 160th & 82
Ave. in Surrey.


Thursday, December 2

Observed at Brunswick Point were 4 SWAMP SPARROWS and 5 AMERICAN TREE
SPARROWS.

At Reifel were 20 COMMON REDPOLLS.

Four WESTERN MEADOWLARKS were reported from Iona.

A HERMIT THRUSH was observed in the 4700 block of Canada Way in Burnaby.

Wednesday, December 08

The McKAY'S BUNTING was seen on the Iona South Jetty at around 9:00 AM &
again around 11:00 AM. It was observed with a group of 6 SNOW BUNTINGS.

At Brunswick Point the following birds were observed: the CATTLE EGRET, 4
SNOWY OWLS, 4 to 5 SWAMP SPARROWS, 2 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, a GYRFALCON and
1 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD.

A flock of 10 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen with a flock of Pine Siskins in the
130 block of 57th Ave. in Surrey.
