Hi,
The volunteer, Mike Switters, who has been working daily on tracking
swans via radio telemetry and sighting collars reported the following
amazing event:
He was observing swans in Whatcom County east of Sumas on Hillview Drive
near the intersection with Rock Road. He saw 2 trumpeters flying about 200
yards up when they flew into a south wind downdraft/wind shear event. They
were immediately out of control, plummeting toward the ground at high speed,
both obviously struggling to recover. One did recover just in time, the
other hit a mobile home and was killed. Mother nature is certainly provides
many aspects of wildlife viewing.
