Subject: [Tweeters] Mountain Chickadee in north-west Bellevue

Single Mountain Chickadee was seen on 5-Dec-04 and 13-Dec-04. I have one
photo of the bird today - let me know if would like it e-mailed to you.

As an aside, the activity at my feeder decreased dramatically on 6-Dec-04.
Before then I was getting large mixed groups of finches (House and Gold),
large mixed groups of chickadees (both kinds) with the single Mountain and a
few Red-breasted Nuthatches, plus a supporting cast of Dark-eyed Juncos and
the odd Bewick's Wren. The finches and chickadees were emptying the feeder
every two days and the juncos were mopping up the fall-out. Now the finches
and chickadees show up very rarely - but I can hear them calling in the
adjacent (more heavily wooded) backyards. The juncos have been forced up
into the tree where they have got through about one-tenth of the feeder in a
week, and where they are often attacked by the resident Anna's male
(Attila). At first I thought Attila was just being more aggressive than
usual, and had driven the other birds away. Now, I suspect that there is a
raptor around, but I haven't seen one.
